To find out mean peak systolic velocity (PSV) of superior and inferior thyroid artery (STA,ITA) in patients with Graves’ disease (GD) using color Doppler ultrasound To find out the correlation between thyroid hormone profile (FT3,FT4,TSH),serum TRAb with PSV of STA and ITA in GD
SOURCE OF DATA : The study was conducted in the department of Radiodiagnosis,S.C.B.Medical College & Hospital,Cuttack,India in patients with treatment naïve GD referred from department of Endocrinology for thyroid ultrasound. STUDY PERIOD: September 2017 to August 2018 STUDY DESIGN: Prospective analytical study SCANNERS AND TRANSDUCERS: The grey scale and color Doppler ultrasonographic examination was performed using PHILIPS HD 7 USG machine with 5-12 MHz linear transducer. INCLUSION..
The mean PSV of STA and ITA was 92.79 ± 44.95cm/sec,86.02 ± 40.61cm/sec respectively.The demographic and biochemical parameters are shown in Table 1 and Doppler parameters in Table 2.The correlation between various parameters with PSV of STA and ITA is shown in Table 3. Patients with GD have increased PSV of STA and ITA than healthy euthyroid population.Since there is weak significant positive correlation between FT3,FT4 with PSV in our study,other unidentified factors may contribute to increase thyroid vascularity in GD.Our study didn’t show significant correlation between PSV of STA or ITA and TSH or TRAb in GD as opposed to some studies.Other angiogenic factors like serum vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) may have some role as shown by Iitaka..
